I've seen the thread in here about prepping your motor/pump with WD-40, CRC, Silicone Spray. I had my Utopia 185 for 5 years and never got it in salt water. I just bought an 07 GTI SE and would like to get it out into the intercoastal and or the Gulf here in FL.

When you say "wash the motor off with fresh water and then spray it with WD-40 or CRC", do you mean spray that stuff on when the motor is wet? What other parts of the engine compartment should be sprayed? I guess linkages and cables sprayed with silicone? What about treating the battery connections with lithium grease?

Is there anything you dont want to spray?

Everything you posted s correct. Spray everything. I use a shammy to remove some water and just spray everything. I use silicone on wires and cable coatings, WD-40 on all the metal parts and nozzle, jet pump components ect...You can use grease on the battery, but I use Dielectric grease on electrical parts if needed.

yes sir, i try not to linger much so that the water does not sit. After i wash rinse the engine down. I immeditely spray the CRC (the one i use is safe on all rubbers and plastics) and then crank the engine to evaporate any water left. keep in mind, i dont do this after every outting. only every couple of trips. when operating in saltwater it is always better to over spray and keep protected then to not have it protected at all.

As for the white lithium grease, i spray down my steering and shift cables to make sure they dont seize up. and any linkages you make have near the pump.
