my wear ring was due for change, so i did. now, 3 wear rings later and only a few secs with each wear ring, i need another. wen i put each wear ring in and then the prop, it all has minimum clearance and turns inside the pump unit well without touching at all. once i bolt the pump unit up and then start the ski ( '04 RXP ) i notice small shavings of wear ring being spat out. i test ride the ski and it cavitates majorly but has great top speed. i go back, pull out the pump unit and those shavings seem so minute. 3 times i have repeated this process. any1 with any clues

Bearings.........

I don't see in your post anywhere, that you've checked the side movement of your shaft. I'm not talking about your drive shaft, I'm talking about your impeller shaft. When you remove the impeller and shaft, do you check the bearings tolerances?

unless you have bigger problems its just the blades flexing a bit should go away after a few secs of spinning

wear ring rxp

I pulled the pump unit off 2day and noticed 2 things unusual. first the pump boot where the front of the pump slides into it was instead of being nice and semetrical all round, it had quiet large lumps so to say all round it. So maybe when it gets tightened, it somehow has an effect on the pump and or wear ring and this could be causing me to chew wear rings. he bearings are fine and i have no side play at all. The other thing i noticed was the spline at the end of my driveshaft and inside the prop are quiet worn down compared to my RXT prop and driveshaft. I did manage to break all 3 mounts about a year ago and i do remember hearing a major grinding noise which was the driveshaft still turning and the prop trying to slow down. Anyway, i fixed the mounts straight away in it was fine.
