Running out of gas

The gas gauge on the old XP went out and I was wondering if anyone knows a way to be able to tell how much gas is left. Any other measurements tools out there? I’ve never run out of gas before and I don’t want to find out what it’s like. Thanks for your input.

It is typically the baffle that either the float is bad and can be replaced or the F1 fuse can be bypassed. It is vary rarely the gauge. Your ski also has ON and RES just run it on ON until it is out of gas then switch to RES for another couple gallons of gas to get you back.

What Mik said. But in the mean time you can lift the hatch and tray and peak at the level of fuel through the semi transparent poly tank.

So would it just basically shut off when it’s out of gas? And does the reserve tank automatically get filled when the setting is to the ON position or would I need to switch it to the reserve to fill that tank?

JJ - where is that tank?

Thank you both for your replies I really appreciate it.

What year XP?

Reserve is nothing more than a straw that goes further down into the tank than the ON straw.

You won’t hurt anything by running out of fuel on “ON” and switching to reserve unless you have trash in the tank and suck it up from the reserve straw.

There is no reserve tank. Only one tank. There are two fuel pickup tubes in the fuel baffle . The regular (on) pickup does not go to the bottom of the tank. The reserve pickup tube does. When you change from on to reserve you simple change to the longer fuel pickup tube. Yes, when you run out of fuel the engine simply dies. What model XP are we speaking of here?
