How Important is the rubber bumper on the end on the drive shaft

i'm working on a 2005 155 wake

If it is the one at the prop,,,then it is not the end of the world.

no the pto end . the prop end is just splines ,i think

Isn’t there some kind of floating white cap at the end???

Not sure, this is the 3rd one I had a part and can't find any pieces of any cap . But on the parts schematics it shows a rubber plug on the Drive Shaft . They call it a Drive Shaft Plug part Number 272000173 . Do they disintegrate over time , you would think I could find at least a trace of the original plug
