this past week my 97 speedster was tied up next to the dock and overnight there was a very large storm that came through and the boat was thrown around a lot. As a result, the rub rail rounded part came off all along the side where it rubbed against the dock. I tried to used a rubber mallet to reinstall it, but there was no success. What i tried was to engage the one side and then press and hit the other edge in. Is there a trick to this, or a special tool?

Same thing happened to me, I let it sit in the sun then went around with a mallet, I had much better success using the mallet to push the rail back in rather than hitting it

Having just put the rub rail onine yesterday +1 for the sun I had one side in the shade and one in the sun. The shaded side was nearly impossible to install.

This is where a heat gun comes in really handy! Use it to soften up the rail and then you can push it into place..:
