Rotary valve timing

There is a range in the manual. 147 is good and the other should be about 65 degrees but there is a range. Be sure you start the 0 degree on the correct part of the mag port opening. This picture is the bottom degree check. Good Luck !!

Ok, got it. I have both a 96' and a 97' seadoo xp's and looked on line and I seen where they said both 130 and 147 and when I looked at the manual I looked at the 96' which says 130 and the 97' says 147. Does this sound right. Thanks again man I appreciate it.

Doesn't sound right to me. I think the range is like 140 - 150 degrees on top and Bottom number 60-70 degrees. I'm pretty sure the picture you're looking at is a 787 engine. That's where the valve should be positioned. It's spot on in the picture.

I have no clue what you are looking at but both the 1996 and 1997 manuals list the 787 rotary valve as a 159 degree and a setting of opening 146.5, closing 64.

Here is a little more information on the numbers you should be shooting for. This is out of the 1996 Seadoo Manual. I also have another book I use but I'd get chastised for mentioning it so I won't. LOL I generally, if I can I put the 787 engines at 147 and 65. I don't like being at either end of the tolerance. Sometimes flipping the rotary valve over will get you closer to your liking. 717 engines and 787 engines are both about the same settings for the rotary valves. Good Luck !

I was looking at the screen shot page I posted from the manual and wondering if you looked at the example they chose which is below the tolerance chart. It says, "Let's use these settings for example." Just curious where you are getting you numbers. :D I've done a number of these even the RFI 787 uses the same Rotary Valve Settings. Good Luck !!

I have no clue what you are looking at but both the 1996 and 1997 manuals list the 787 rotary valve as a 159 degree and a setting of opening 164.5, closing 64.

I dunno what's up with all the different numbers?? 165 and 64 are not even possible with the correct rotary valve.

I was thinking the same thing and I'm pretty new to these engines that 165 and 65 would not be possible with a 159 rotary valve. Thanks for the info guys, I do appreciate it. One more quick question, where can I get the 2 O-rings that sit on the cylinder between the piston and the 6 bolts that hold the cover.Screenshot_20210420-144231~2.png

If I'm only getting one beep when I put the key on and one beep when I push the start button, engine does NOT turn over but it will if I jump the solenoid. Does this mean a bad MPEM?

If you are getting one long beep the MPEM is not recognizing the Key.,
On the gaskets, I just buy top-end gasket sets.

That's what I did, I ordered the gasket set. What needs to be done if the MPEM isn't recognizing the key, how is that fixed?
