even with removing the retaining clip, the rv assy needs to be "pulled" from its housing. The end shaft is "somewhat" pressed into the bearing, that remains in the housing. You'll need some type of puller.
I used a front motor mount, jerry-rigged up, to pull the assy. Theres threads inside the hole, where the gear is, that holds the rv plate. No need to be marking anything for re-alignment, it wont work, you must leave the crank to move freely, so the rv assy can "dislodge" itself from the crank gear, that the brass gear, thats on the rv assy, for it to be removed (rv assy).
