How hard is to remove the rotary shalt from 787 96 xp do I need to remove the engine to pull it out and do I need any special tools to do the job I want to inspect the rotary seal on it before I take the engine apart.

It can be done with engine in ski.. you have to pull airbox, flame arrestor, carbs, rotary valve and cover. You can mark where you take rotary valve off for reinstall or buy a degree wheel (About $10). The rotary valve shaft is held in by a retaining clip. They sell a puller for the rotary valve shaft but its not always necessary. Make sure when you reinstall everything to set timing correctly. If you need anything else, just ask.

even with removing the retaining clip, the rv assy needs to be "pulled" from its housing. The end shaft is "somewhat" pressed into the bearing, that remains in the housing. You'll need some type of puller.

I used a front motor mount, jerry-rigged up, to pull the assy. Theres threads inside the hole, where the gear is, that holds the rv plate. No need to be marking anything for re-alignment, it wont work, you must leave the crank to move freely, so the rv assy can "dislodge" itself from the crank gear, that the brass gear, thats on the rv assy, for it to be removed (rv assy).

I do want to pull it out I'm going to buy the puller to do it righ what I want to know is that when I'm ready to put it back in wil it go back in with out any force or do I need another special tool.I want to get all the info before pulling it out thank everyone

no special tool to install it. Use a rubber mallot, but first, hand "fish" it in, as far as possible, then tap gently, make sure though, the crank can "free-spin", while installing.

Does anyone know how to make a home made drive shaft puller I heard to use a pvc. CaP does anyone know how

Use a 1-1/2 - 2in pvc end plug, drill hole in center of it, thats the same diameter as the bolt, that threads into the center of gear. Make sure, bolt is atleast and incg longer then the endplug. Then have a nut threaded onto bolt. Turn bolt into center of gear, a few threads, then bottom out nut to endplug. Should have washer between nut and endplug. Twist the nut, so your "tightening" it, inwhich then, the force, will "suck" the rv assy out of its housing.
