It could be a rod bearing, but before we jump to that conclusion lets do a couple of checks.
A cylinder that is misfiring badly could sound and act like a rod problem, so start by pulling the plugs and having a look at them. If they look fairly old replace them and check the plug wires while you're at it. Before you put the new plugs in do a compression test on all the cylinders. If one is more than 15 psi below the others you may have a problem. Before panicking though be sure to spray some of your two-stroke oil in the cylinder and recheck it. If the plug was shot the compression may read falsely low due to being washed down.
