I recently was having some issues with takeoff a little while ago and after some research came to the conclusion that it was time to replace my wear ring. I took my time finding the right parts and making sure i had everything i would need to complete this simple, albeit critical task. I figured i would support the forum and purchase a wear ring from riva, which i was told multiple times it would be an OEM part. I got the parts in the mail and I had been on this message board (lurking) for long enough to know that the oem ring is black with a fiberglass core. The ring i got in the mail was bright blue and felt soft, naturally i emailed riva and was assured this is a genuine OEM wear ring. What gives guys? Am i being jerked around?

The ring was replaced a few weeks ago and i'm already noticing cavitation.

I dont know if it is OEM or not.

But did you check the clearance between the blades (in the middle) and ring? It should not be larger than 0.40mm. If it is ok on all blades, maybe you have a problem on the carbon seal.

Yeah, i emailed them again and they havent responded. I checked the wear ring last night, it was already pretty worn (maybe 10 hrs on it), but only half, so i flipped it and hopefully can get another 10 hours out of it. Im not 100% sure what to look for with the carbon seal though? My ski isnt taking on any water at all so im not sure that would be the problem (?), but i only did a little research on the seal.

I inverted mine wear ring and it works good. No cavitation.

About the carbon seal, they say you can have problems even with no leaks... I dont belive that...

But I would recommend this thread about it:

SeaDoo doesn't make a 2 piece ring for the 4tecs anymore. They finally realized that they were junk and went to the one piece like all the aftermarkets. The blue one is OEM and is for the 130/155 pump.

Interesting, my buddy had one replaced from the dealer and it was a black two piece, guy said it was from sea-doo. There was some up and down play on my shaft, not sure if that would constitute carbon seal failure or not. My sea-doo shop replaced my ring at the beginning of the season and he said my last one failed because whomever installed the last one didnt put the screws in that hold the ring in place. He didnt put them in either; which i noticed when i recently changed my ring.
