rev limiter?

I just got a 1991 XP, and took it out today and it idles fine but as soon as ya give it more than about half throttle it sounds like its hittin a rev limiter and doesnt really get up and go as i though it should. Any help would be appreciated as im not very savy on sea doos, i dont know lots about trucks and atvs and sleds so maybe that can help.

also the tach doesnt work so im not sure what its revin, so how and where does that hook up?

You most likely have a damaged impeller and/or wear ring.

and what is a wear ring and where is it?

The wear ring is in the jet pump around the impeller.
