hey what's up guys . i'm brand new to this site and have a question . just got a 97 seadoo challenger . it was hydr locked got all the water out and then cleaned the carbs . starts istently and idles great. however it's when i give it gas and it hits 3000 rpm the motor sounds like it bogs down and wont rev any higher and suggestions i was told maybe the rev limiter but is it bad or needs to be reset . thanx in advanced for any advice.

Internal combustion engine 101; a bog down under throttle is a starvation of fuel or to much fuel, the rev limiter limits via ignition falling off and sounds like a sputter when trying to go beyond the limit and sounds strong just a few RPM's under the limit.
Check choke and see if pulling slightly(on the Choke) while it is Boging down effects it . You could simply not have the choke opening up fully due to linkage or it could be running very lean and cold blooded needing the choke at half mast
At any rate I am betting on a carb problem . Will bet you a pint of 2 stroke oil. :coolgleam:

unscrew the lever assy and pull ur up from boat. Amongst the levers are a fcouple wires that attach to a "switch". That switch is the nuetral switch, so if its stuck, it wont allow ur boat to rev past the 3-3500rpm...If that function isnt it, then i'd say, rip thru fuel system again/"rebuild" the carbs

I had the same problem with mine - I had to shift the boat to forward or reverse. Try this before you do anything else!
Mine hit 7K rpm no problem after I shifted it.
Have you done this or did you rev it up in N?

I was gonna say that. I did the same thing and got scared that I messed something up, but when I put it in gear, it took off just fine.

That rev-limiter in neutral drives me nuts.

Is there any way to disable that? I use neutral for docking, and it would be nice to be able to hit it a little harder.
