replacing just glass mirrors on GTI

Both the mirrors on my just acquired 96 GTI are lose and rattle when under power. I can just barely look behind the mirror and see that the screws are a little loose. I am hopeful that just the mirrors can be removed so I can tighten the mounts. I am afraid to pry to hard as I might break something. Can anyone tell me if you can remove just the glass and how to do it?

mirror rattle fix

Just put some silicone all around the screw head and also where the mirror mount attaches. You have to cant the mirror just right to get behind it you might have to wedge somthing under the mirror to give you more room to work just dont put too much pressure on it. You will need a small screwdriver or some thin device to put the silicone on to reach behind the mirror and apply the silicone.
