I have a bad Welch plug on my 96 xp. I got the three Allen bolts and the nut off the stud on the upper section. Removed the two Allen bolts on the bracket and loosened up the clamp holding the two sections of the exhaust together. Do I want to split there or do I want to pull it out as one piece? Thank you for the support!

Ok thank you. It is pretty stuck. I was just seeing mixed Articles. Some saying bad to split and some saying just get new copper gasket and gasket sealer. Once I break it free into two will it be easier to get it off the single stud on the top portion and be able to slide it out? Looks fairly tight in there.

You don't need a new copper gasket unless yours is damaged for some reason and it shouldn't be. Be sure to get the high temp copper RTV or something similar. I split mine at that joint every time. That's why it is there.

I have two that need welding. I used a die grinder to get to some good metal then machined a 1" X 1/4" thick aluminum plug to fit the hole. I left a 1/4" extension on the plug so it wouldn't bottom out. I know the welder with thank me. LOL Good Luck !!

Yes I am not familiar with welding but I was just going to buy the Welch plugs I found on eBay and replace all 4. My uncle is a very respected welder where I live so I should have no problem getting it to him. Thank you and good luck to you as well and brapppp on!!!

Is very nice of him to use my picture as his first image.

Funny how it's the same image I posted.......4 years ago.

Hey yeah that’s the guy. I saw your post from 4 years ago haha. You didn’t leave a phone number or anything to buy from you. Are you still making them? I would much prefer to give a member my money!!!

Yep, still make them. Just contact me thru private message. I'll only give my number out that way, not really looking have my phone ring in the middle of the night for $5. But just PM conversation is usually enough to get the job done. I usually just give my number to guys that buy my sponsons or block off kits in case they have questions. Obviously, he makes money on his, I do it just to cover costs and help guys out, I'm not going to retire off these parts. Shipping is $7.20 now, I think I charge $6 and loose the $1.20. I've had guys baulk at the $7.20 and that I can ship it cheaper. Sure, I can, but I need to buy padded envelopes, get stamps, etc...... It's easier for me just to have the post office drop boxes at my house for free and I just print the label at home. I try and keep my end simple, I'm here to help.

I also like to help people but the ones that complain are always gonna complain even if you do it for free. I believe you should cover your total cost and your time as well. Heaven forbid someone makes a couple of dollars. $15.00 for the first one and $5.00 extra for each. It costs $17.00 at McDonald's for 2 large size quarter pounder meals and it ain't even a quarter pounder. :) Thanks for helping people. Carry on... nothing to see here. LOL :D:D

Thanks @Brprxt215
Appreciate the extra kitty.

Fresh made and already dropped in the mail. Road trip tomorrow so no time to hit the post office. You should see them Friday.
