Regarding Rave Valves (Need help!)

Today I opened up the rave's to clean them, and I noticed 1 was different from the other.

The rear one, didn't have the little black screw/knob (11mm usually can take it off).

And the front one did, but I got the rear one off and the inside was melted, the "piston" of the rave valve, so I ordered a kit to rebuild it.

But any reason why they're different? And if so, is it okay?

They should both be the same.

From your description, it sounds like one was missing a piece and probably wasn't working as a result? I guess that must be a 787 motor, crankcase pressure pushes them open by filling the bwllows with pressure so there must be a hermetic seal. The rubber bellows from China are defective.

If it's not working correctly, hot exhaust gasses can enter the upper portion and burn the plastic stuff up.

There have been problems with aftermarket foreign made rubber bellows not allowing the valve to travel to full open and full closed b/c they're made incorrectly. If the valve isn't opening fully at high speed, the lower o-ring under the body doesn't seal against the body and this allows hot gasses to enter (melted pieces). If the valve doesn't close fully, the idle is very rough and startups difficult.

Thanks for the help!

I think you're right, but I'm a bit confused as well. What piece do you think is missing? because I just dumped $70 in rave valve rebuild kits.
