Have a rebuilt 717 for my '95 XP and the builder is recommending pre-mix vs oil injection, claims ethanol in today's fuel is the reason. Looking for opinions and advice, this machine ran 16 years on oil injection and failed do to someone's stupidity.:willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

I understand that you may want to do that when breaking in the rebuilt engine, but don't think it would be necessary after the first tank or to of gas.

He has no idea what he is talking about. One does not relate to the other.

I would recommend sticking wit the premix on stock machines for recreational use. Very few times the oil pump has failed on its own.

I have however seen some check valves go bad....a good reason to use see thru lines to check for air bubbles.

If at all possible use non ethanol gas...if it isnt affordable use it for the last two tanks of gas. It will keep your carbs much cleaner over the winter.
