I'm rebuilding a 97 GS, paint and all, what would be the best engine to put in? I can restore the 717 but I was thinking if I'm going to restore it I should go all out.

Really the 717 is the simplest option. To go to a 787 or 951, you’re going to have to glass in new motor mounts and do some significant modification to the hull itself. If you want more power, I’d look at building up what you’ve got...

I had a 1998 GS for a couple of rides this summer. That ski was pretty darn nice. I had a blast riding it.

Thanks for the advice, what would you do to get the most out of the 717 engine?

Matt Is the guy you want to talk to about mods. I’d probably throw a good pipe, a head, and a set of flame arrestors on it though. You’ll have to rejet the carbs, but you’ll see a big increase in power if the parts are selected well...

I have a friend with a Rossier pipe for sale for the 717. I'm not recommending anything though... just puttin it out there. :D
