REBUILD.

So I have a spare 717 laying around that has a chip In the first cylinder and am going to be rebuilding it. I’m fairly new to this , but pretty familiar with mechanics. With that being said, i know with your guyziz help, and the Shop manual, i can do it. Lol. I just want any advice on what to do , what to not do , avoid or advice in general. I’m doing this with full intent to make it perfect, but just a sir project at the time !!!! Thank you guys!!!

I want to make it 100 %. I believe the bottom end is good!!! How would you know if the bottom is fucked

I mean the aluminum dust created by that piston melting down. Look at the piston skirt, that thing has had something serious go wrong, guessing wrong oil and very lean condition.

If you want it to be 100% you will have to replace the crank and tear the bottom end down.
Not to mention the damage the abrasion would have caused to the crank seals.

Its more than just a chunk missing, its scoring, severe blowby, rust, and debris both ferrous and non ferrous.

I don’t doubt it. I was planning on getting everything sand blasted and cleaned up and the rebuild it. You think it’s worth it?

I think they are. They are good motors. Build it to the factory spec and they work great.

I have one in my GS. I agree with you. I’m doing it more for a learning experience and then during winter I’ll restore my hull and drop it in , the. Do it all over again with the one that’s in it ...
