Hi. Today we noticed the rear of the my 2001 XP began to fill with water. It’s new to me so I took it home and read the manual. I think the bilge is broken. I don’t see it discharging anywhere. Also I believe it’s supposed to turn on when the key first goes in, but the bilge does nothing when it’s the key goes on the post.

I checked the 3 amp fuse and it seems to be fine. Any suggestions?

first find out why water is getting in the bilge, that should not happen. second, the bilge pump should just come on even without the key in as long as the battery is fully charged. it should be automatic controlled with a switch. take out bilge pump and test it directly with a 12v battery. run some clean water through it and make sure it is not jammed. on my boat there are two "posts" so when the water rises above the top post it completes the circuit and starts the pump. you may have something like that.

Is the carbon ring something that may be causing a leak?
Therefore my bilge problem is really just a part of a bigger problem..the leak ?

bingo. Carbon ring is the black ring that wraps around the driveshaft just before that black accordion thing that is called the bellow and exits the hull. It is held in place by a silver carrier. the carbon ring wears down over time, and wears prematurely if the engine is not aligned properly. The carbon ring is designed to keep the water out but eventually needs to be replaced.

if you have a place to dip the back of the boat in the water and even run it without the seat on to see where the water is entering.

Ok I can definitely do that to check the leaks.

how do I get the seat off? Doesn’t seem to pop off easily like the front and rear compartments

I was thinking you had an earlier model....i have not owned one of these skis with the raised seat on that shock absorber, but i am assuming you can do all the work without removing the seat.

Yeah I think I can. I started removing the seat and then realized I don’t think I have to

Ok I got it started last night. Watched a good YouTube video about how to remove plugs then crank the engine until I got the water out. Took about 5-6 tries of removing plugs then cranking and reinstalling them.

my carbon seal kit comes this week and I can try that. The seal in there now can be pushed baxk by hand and water leaks right in.

I have to change the oil as well to be safe (of course I just changed it the day before it took on water)

That seal can always be pushed back by hand and water will leak in, it is the way it is designed.

I would get that thing runing and get the water out then fog the crap out of it.

You need to find the leak with the ski in the water.

Its a 2 stroke,,,no oil changes,,,see if the fuse on the bilge is blown,,,disconnect the bilge and apply 12 volts from your battery to it,,,then you can easily determine if it works,,

Tilt the ski bow up put water in bildge on land watch where or if water comes out.then drain water out next run on flush hose see if water leaks into bildge.if no water leaks in.your bailer tube rings are bad pushing water in and not creating a vacuum.bildge pump cycles every min or so to check for water.it has a resistance sensor.it only will cycle if key is on dess post
