Last time I ran the boat was early Oct, boat ran great. I parked it and kept batteries charged, going out and cranking it once or so every 3 or 4 weeks. Went to do the same thing today and the passenger side motor appears to be locked up. The starter was making a straining noise without the motor rolling over so I didn't keep trying it. I pulled the plugs out and cannot rotate it by hand either. The other motor rotates easily with the plugs still in so I'm sure its locked. How and why though would this have happened? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Is this a simple top end rebuild....hopefully?

fogging is not for cold weather. it is to keep corrosion from forming on the internals of the engine. The engine should be fogged anytime it is going to sit for a period of time. Some people fog their engine after every use. I think I've read that transmission fluid works really well to free up frozen pistons, but wait until others give their advice, that is just something I read and don't know if it's the best thing for you to do at this point.

Are the tips of the spark plugs rusty looking? Maybe it's not the engine....what about a locked up jet pump?

Did a little google research and came up with.....Marvel Mystery oil. I went and bought some, came home and poured some into each spark plug hole and let it sit for a hour. Went back out and tried it and same thing, starter acted like it was straining. Soooo, I put a pipe wrench on the motor stem and rotated it by hand with the wrench and although it was tough at first it eased up and got real loose. Next I put the plugs back in and it fired right up. I turned it off again and let it sit for a bit and went back and hit the starter and it fires up every time now so I guess its going to be ok. Still going to do a compression test though. But anyway, lesson learned though, always fog the motor. On a side note, I recently was given a badly decomposing Honda XR80 thats been sitting in the woods on a buddies property with a locked motor. After the Marvel Mystery Oil worked on my boat I figured I'd give a little to the XR and low and behold the motor is now free and smooth. Going to rebuild the carb this afternoon on it and see if she'll run again. Marvels the stuff it seems.
