Hello everyone. I have a 96 XP for approximately 6-7 years now and recently decided that i want to get more into it and possibly do some basic mods to improve performance and handling. it has primarylu been kept at my fathers house and I know this next statement will make some of you cringe as it did me when i started doing research and reading on up these forums but I dont believe the pump oil has ever been changed or the wear ring etc. I have also noticed that over the past 2 years that it doesnt really have the thurst or power that it use to. I have heard different people saying different things about the stock fuel lines suck...carbs need cleaning...pump maybe rebuilt and bad wear ring causing excess water to pass by. I know this has probably been discussed a millio times on here so please have patience with me. I am assuming the waverunner is stock so pretty much...WHERE DO I BEGIN lol. I do annual winterizing and i premix my gas as suggested by many people.

Bottom line is, if you still have Grey Tempo fuel lines they MUST be replaced. When doing so, replace the filter, clean fuel selector (or replace it as they are cheap and that's better than cleaning it), clean the filters inside the carbs (not with car cleaner as it can destroy them). It is likely the carbs will need rebuilt, at a minimum they need cleaned.

I would STRONGLY recommend doing a compression test first and post the results. We can give you a clue about your engine with that info.

^+1.

Gray lines do suck. Replace them after you verify compression readings. A basic tune might help too. New plugs, trim the wires, etc....

Oh, and don't call your XP a waverunner. That's sacrilege.

Haha thanks on the "no wave runner" phrase. I have changed the spark plug before. I use only premixed gas and the oil injection system is not hooked up so I know I'm getting the right oil/gas. I use 92/93 octane with synthetic oil.
