Questions about long-distance runs / long-distance vacations onboard a Sea-Doo

Hi there folks,

I don’t know that I posted in the right area, so if I did not, please feel free to reposition as needed.
I also did a Quick Look to find a similar thread but I did not find one…. So hopefully this is not a repetitive thread.

I am in my mid 40’s. I bought my Seadoos 10 years ago, with the only intention of doing afternoons and day trips. We always had an express cruiser for multi-day trips….
Now we are no longer with an express cruiser but only a pontoon boat and our two jet skis. My wife isn’t super jazzed about my trip idea….. so the pontoon boat may not be doable because of the amount of locks to do solo (if I had one or two to do, I would wait for weekdays and go it alone, but as this is a very long trip I don’t stand a chance alone…).

My goal here is to take my jet ski (or my pontoon boat if I can convince my wife) and do a trip from Buckhorn Lake (lock 31) down to the Bay of Quinte, continue east to the Rideau Canal system and take that north to Smiths Falls.
I have been using ChatGPT to try to get my routing settled but it REALLY SUCKS for that purpose.

Anyway, as long as I am posting here I will ask for both Jet Ski and Pontoon.

Jet Ski’ing- is this a crazy idea on a jet ski? I would do a combo of tenting and hotels/lodges along the way. I figure I can creep slightly above the 10km rule without creating a wake, I should be able to “lock through” quicker because I can squeeze in where boats cannot fit…. And across Bay of quinte and other open waters I can get up and go and take a lot of time out of the ride.

Pontoon boat- I don’t have a full enclosure, so I cannot camp outside without the threat of being eaten alive, so I would do tenting or hotel/lodges like the Seadoo concept (unless someone tells me it is “way worth it” to get a full canvass enclosure). At least with the pontoon I can pack tons of food / drinks and I can use my onboard bbq to cook dinner each night. The trade off is the speed, the locking will become more difficult, and the gas consumption will go up.

Does anyone have any experience doing this? Anything even remotely similar? I would love to hear your stories and I welcome all input / constructive criticism and advice (provided it is helpful of course ;)).

Many thanks for your time!

Happy Boating!
