Gang,

I have notice on my new Purchase the 96 Sportster on the back just across from the right Jet there is a Circle with 2 rubber flaps and seem to be open a 1/4..My question is that when docked would not water enter and fill up engine compartment..Is this standard or is the flap shot/done..not sure of its purpose as of yet..any help would be great

hey top....when you say right Jet, how many motors you got?, my 96 Sportster has 1. There is (1) rubber flapper, which allows the boat to drain, the 2 smaller holes, 1 is a water attach, recommend not to use, other is the bildge drain hole....

How many Jets

2 Twin 85's ..I figured the flap allowed water out but seems to be open 1/4, will this allow in the bottom of eng compartment when sitting which then i would have to turn on bilge pump quite offten, and monitor the water that is coming in..my fear is if i dock and want to sit on the beach for a few hours..is there some type of bridge/stopper that alllow the water out and not in even if that flap(rubber) is 1/4 open.

Thanks

That flap is supposed to be connected to the cockpit drain directly, which is higher up than the valve.

If it is properly connected, under normal operation water won't flow up the tube. Check that it is connected and not leaking, and if you want there's another thread "couple of problems with my boat" where daveyjones replaced his with a new one that doesn't leak. That valve is apparently called a scupper valve.

Oh yeah and do you maybe have a speedster? The sportster came with one 85, speedster came with two, from what I remember

Have fun! I can't wait to get my challenger running and on the water. Just waiting for the registration and for my lazy butt to go flush the gas.

on the PTO'S, stud. Remove the grey shields, may need to turn them(pto) for visual...if any cables seem sticky, tab some at each of the ends, and work'm...
