Put my gti se into water today and naturally to start the season off right sucked up rope bad. Turned jetski over on land got it out most of it some blew through exhaust. Prop and ring seem to be ok but after riding I had a weird sound and vibration and wasn’t gettin last 25mph went to slip took cover off the oil stick was open from I guess turning it over. Would the oil cap being off cause the ski to sound weird and not go full speed?! And after that went for a ride ski was going fast no problem no sound

Or only thing I can think of as maybe a coincidence maybe there was just another piece of rope in there and it blew out around same time! Any info truly appreciated

Not that I saw it must’ve blown out cause right when I noticed the oil cap was open I shut it went for a ride and didn’t have any vibration weird noise and hit 40mph
im talking about a visual check to make sure it somehow couldn't have caused any damage to the impeller

I did a quick check will exam more when I go back to ski.if it is damage to impeller could it go away and then come back? Cause I went full throttle after and it was fine.

You'll know pretty quick I think, if the wear ring is toast. (Reduced speed for normal RPM) Sometimes the drive shaft can be bent from the rope pulling a side-load on it but since now it's not vibrating I also lean towards an obstruction cleared out of the pump.

Good luck, be safe!

Thank you! When it gets a bit warmer in nyc gonna take it for another test ride before. After i pulled into my dry dock yest I went back out and no vibration was hitting 40mph pretty easy. Didn’t have the weird noise anymore either

Sure, I shoulda added, when I get even a small twig stuck on my impeller (like between impeller and wear ring) it makes quite a vibration and the boat won't move.

Occasionally if I idle too close to shore I'll suck up a stick and loss of propulsion with vibration occurs. By just shutting off the engine for a moment, sometimes the object clears free by itself.

Awesome! I appreciate it the rope was pretty soft to and I did see most of it blow out the pump after I took it out. Hopefully it’s all gone usually my ski hits 43-45 yesterday got to 40 but was choppy in the bay. Again thank you

Thinking that to, just say impeller is messed up to would you do it yourself or bring it to dealer, would like to learn how but not sure if worth it
40+ years twisting wrenches professionally on autos, I'll tackle about anything. ;) You should have a pretty accurate estimate of your own mechanical skills, watch a couple YouTube videos before deciding, but it ain't that hard to do.

I would expect your ski should do over 50MPH without much difficulty. As far as I know, all the 4-tecs will do over 50 no problem and the SC 4-tec can even reach 70MPH

I think they turn past 7,000 RPM or more at these speeds?

I have gti se 90 top speed 42 but I do hit 45ish in perfect conditions and the stars align lol

From online
Together, the 900 engine and PolyTec hull lower the 2018 Sea-Doo GTI SE’s weight to only 640 pounds. But make no mistake, it positions this craft solidly in introductory territory. Punch the throttle and you’ll note acceptable acceleration, but on average only about a 43 mph top speed.
And there’s forums about how people were expecting faster with it
