I have a 96 seadoo xp that is doing something weird. It does not like to accelerate while pointed straight forward but if I crank the handlebars left or right, it takes off like normal. The other issue is that once it does take off normal, while at full throttle for a couple of minutes, if I let off the throttle it kind of sputters for a while almost like a spark plug is getting too wet or something. At that point it usually dies and once it sits for a couple of minutes it will start right back up and I can do the turn and get it to accelerate again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Check your throttle cable for a kink or miss routed. Also check that the carbs snap closed when the throttle is released. With the seadoo not running, remove the air box and look at the carbs to see it works properly. You should see the throttle valve or butterfly snap closed and open smoothly in all handle bar positions.

I went out today and remembered one other thing I was supposed to mention. The engine does wind when pointed forward, but its almost like the impeller is not grabbing the water until I make the turn and it does not go full speed even then, only about 45mph with a 170lb guy on it. Any ideas with that tidbit of additional info?

Oh, checked the throttle cable and it is good to go. Thank you so much for your help on this.

Check the clearance of the Impeller on the wear ring. It should be .040" at the blade. Use a 12 " feeler guage from the nozzle end to measure the clearance.
It sounds like you need a manual.
