possible stupid question about my XP

ok, so on my 03 XP DI, my gas gauge does not work. literally blank. runs and rides perfect, but i get a random long beep every once in a while. no maint light, not overheating (i can literally put my hand on every part of the motor). would the beeping be because the gauge isn't working? like it is sensing low fuel level? it is incredibly annoying.

Yes, more than likely it's low fuel.

Put an ohm meter on the fuel level plug and with an empty or full tank, see if the resistance is what is listed in the repair manual for that level. Next, pull the fuel pump and actuate the fuel level sender arm, see if your gauge reacts. Probably a failed sending unit.

Also try to check the connection on your fuel gauge/sending unit. My previous 01 GTX had issues until I found out the connectors were corroded and I used contact cleaner on them.

You could bridge out the connector for the fuel gauge at pump and fuel qty I indicator should go full scale
Don’t do it long as the wire may get hot
Safety first no fuel fumes near connector and fuel tank sealed
