Popoff testing

Just need some clarification on popoff testing.........If I pressure up with the needle "dry" I just get a hiss and slow release of pressure...........is this normal? If I spray the needle down with wd-40 or carb cleaner, It "pops", would this indicate a poor needle/seat, or does it have to be sprayed down to test?
What would symptons of improper 'Pop' be? I'm having issues of starts fine, idles fine, but as soon as throttle goes above 3000rpm, missfires, occasional backfire..............been thru electrical, carbs clean.......just pulled them again to check this Pop..........

you need to do the pop-off test wet, also you need to have your year & model of your ride posted on your profile. that would help people help you.

crazee...if you did not mess with the springs or bend the tabs, then you dont need to worry about it, or unless you went with aftermarket F/A...make sure your lsa/hsa are set correctly. Is this a 951cc, if so, you inspect the reeds? Or have you tried disconnecting the red wire from the rectifier?
