Hi i have a 1999 GSX rfi, its giving me a headache!!! i bought the ski 2 weeks ago and the chap said it had a engine rebuild just befor he parked it up 2 and a half yrs ago in his garage.. When i bought it i put a fresh full tank of fuel, sparkplugs and a new battery. So i took it out at the weekend and within 20mins 12v DESC and a red light flashing came up on the dash, within 30secs the ski cut out on me and would not start back up.. i checked for a spark and found that one of the plugs had broke down, so i put 2xnew plugs in AGAIN,, recharged the NEW battery BUT STILL WONT START. There is a spark and fuel is getting to the injectors and iv even tryed putting fuel in the cylinders but still wont start.. please please can somebody help me??? IM GUTTED

A couple of questions: 1 Is it cranking over? and 2 did you replace the rectifier on it. The RFI and DI will not run right with out a good charging system. I would also do a compression test on it just to be on the safe side.

hi mate thanks for the reply, yeah mate mate its cranking over but not starting, and no i havent replaced the rectifer, would this stop it from starting then and also is it a easy job to do? thanks again.....

i will try that mate, just got to try a get hold of a tester but if not i have it booked in on saturday at TONY HOLE in plymouth who deals with jetskis. do you know what the compression should be? if compression is low do you have any ideas what maybe the cause? thanks for reply

You want to be above 100 PSI. I would not run with anything lower really but they will run sometime with 70 PSI. A lot of problems that i have seen is rust around the crank from poor maint. Sometimes a main bearing will go out and do the same thing. It's the nature of the beast with a 2-stroke.

thanks for the info rxtxfreak,, i hopefully know more 2moz, im taking it to seadoo to see what they say.. i will keep posted. thanks again

mate had phone call from seadoo today,, he said he has checked everything and all seems ok, so he done my timing and it started but it then coughed and splutted and would not start again so he checked my timing again and it was out again:mad: he said it could be a gear in the crankcase rotary valve which he is going to strip down and check tomorrow but he said it could be something else todo with the crank case rotary valve but i cant remember what he said and he said if thats the case the jetski is worthless. What do you guys recon??
