Hey i have a 2005 gtx 155 that is not winterize because i keep it in my heated garage during winter yesterday i forgot to close the garage when i was leaving for work the ski is parked under the garage heater but it was pretty cold in the garage my question is do you guy think the ski might have the engine damaged ?

I guess the answer to your question probably lies in knowing how cold it got and for how long. But I think you can rest easy and don’t need to be concerned. The antifreeze coolant, if mixed properly, will prevent freezing, to a large extent. In my automotive opinion, which can probably be applied to this scenario, it would likely take a 24-36 hour hard freeze of way below 32 degrees - like 0 or so, to have a hard freeze in your ski, where the water in the coolant would freeze to the extent that it expands and causes damage to the engine or heat exchanger. It doesn’t sound like you experienced anything like that. Squeeze your coolant hoses and see if they are frozen rock hard, and check your overflow bottle if it is solid ice too. If you are still liquid or even slushy, I think you should be good.

i would say it was around 12 or so hour and it was super cold outside like way bellow zero but heater was running. My coolant botle was the first thing i check and it was liquid not even a little slushy i think i’m good !! thanks a lot for your help.

As Poormanracing said, thought it would be the exhaust heat exchanger and muffling system only with water.
The engine block, head and lower ride plate/ heat exchanger and coolant bottle should all be antifreeze (at least on a 155).

Well i talked to my local dealership (montreal area) and that’s also what they told me to stop worrying for a cracked block he also told me that a lot of peoples leave their not winterized ski outside all winter that suprised me !!

and there is some trapped water in the water box that will freeze,,,no biggie, there is so much room for expansion.
Not quite sure I follow. I thought the problem with the intercooler IS that the water inside freezes and expands and blows out the box(?)

The water box / muffler and an intercooler are two distant strangers. An external intercooler definitely requires winterization where as water box/ muffler not so much.

I thought Popps was talking about the water box/muffler, was just trying to explain his comment but he pulled it now so I’m not sure what he was talking about.

Sorry,,,I forgot you had SC,,,and the older ones, can retain water, I was referring to the water box,,,lots of room for expansion, apologies.

As others have mentioned, if it is NA which yours is, the only water will be in the exhaust can and the water box.

The exhaust can can withstand water freezing as the sides get wider as they go up. If the water froze in it it could expand with no damage.

As for the waterbox, it is more or less self draining and it might have a little water in it but again if it froze it should be able to wistand it.

I know of several people who have NA skiis and they do nothing to them to winterize them. Just roll under their deck with a cover and done.

Now if your machine had an intercooler, most likely it would have water in it and would freeze and most likely would split.
