I've been reading a few of the resto threads lately and thought I could make a small contribution. I read about this method on a Jeep forum, guys were restoring all of the exterior plastics with good results. One guy re-posted after nine months and said the colour was still holding up well. Mix 50% paint thinner and 50% boiled linseed oil, both cheap at the hardware store. Apply with a rag and wipe off with a clean one. I tried this last October on the reverse gate, reverse support, nozzle and rear grab handle of my 97 GTX. This ski has spent every summer in full sun for at least the last ten years. The pictures are from before, after and three months later. The high gloss "after" picture looked pretty awesome but in three months I guess that the residual oil has soaked into the plastic and/or evaporated. I'm happy with the result as its 100% better than what it was, I'll post another picture this summer to show how it's holding up. One word of caution, these products are both flammable, I have read that the boiled linseed oil could spontaneously combust, so use common sense when disposing of the used rags. I just added them to the fire pit and lit them up. I would have posted in the "how to" section but couldn't find the thread starter, feel free to move it.

hell's ya !!!!
I've heard to people using Diesel as well, it made my pumps look spectacular....

I think I still have a reverse bucket or two sitting up in my attic, I might try this.... they are too ugly to sell "as is"

If you're looking to sell, WD-40 will get you the same shine with a lot less mess.

I was using lacquer thinner to clean the goo off where the registration numbers were. The previous owner scraped and gouged them off, so now I have nice scratches :(. The paper towel that had some thinner landed on the plastic rub rail, and brought a nice purple color. The Sea Doo is a 95 GTS with the ugly rub rails, that need help. I do not know how long they will last, but it appeared to remove a layer of oxidation, and purple.
