Plastic odor at start up

My 2004 GTX has been running great the last few seasons. I just started it for the first time this season on the trailer with the water hose hooked up. It started right up and I let the engine run for 3 or 4 minutes before shutting it down. That's when I noticed a light smoke haze coming from the bottom of the engine and up the front side. There was also an odor of melting plastic which seemed to be strongest from the back side of the engine.

I could not find any shorts or burnt wire insulation. It restarted several times and runs fine.

Any chance the smell could be from the seals around the impeller shaft or something that is usually submerged in water? Carbon build up in the exahust with condensation burning off? I never run it on the trailer more than 3 or 4 minutes. I think the manual says no more than 5 minutes.

Did you winterize the ski, or did a shop do it for you? The smoke and odor could be from the SeaDoo spray burning off the exhaust components. I live in FL where corrosion is a big problem, so I spray lubricant all over the place before I store them for the winter.

The other thing it could be (and let's hope this isn't the case) is an exhaust leak. I've gone through two J-pipes on one ski, and the fogging oil (preservative oil sprayed into the cylinders during off-season storage prep), really smokes on that first startup.

I winterize the ski myself but I don't spray down the compartment since the ski is stored inside.

Can't seem to find anything after a thorough inspection so it may be something I just have to try on the water to see if the odor disappears.
