What do you guys think about replacing piston rings? Will that restore compression to a tired engine if the cylinder looks good and smooth?Just lookin to do an inexpensive rebuild but dont want to replace pistons...engine currently has 125 psi in each cylinder.:bigear:

I would suggest using a micrometer on the cylinders to make sure they are not worn out, you may be able to get away with new rings and honing the cylinders, but chances are they could use a bore. Just what I would do if it was me, I could be wrong though. ;)

you'll need a bore gauge and dial caliper to accurately check the at top, bottom and middle of cylinder to make sure they are not worn unevenly. You might me able to get by with a hone and ring but they usually require boring to the next size
