For a 951 if you have a weird intermittent max rpm around 6500, check the raves and replace the small oring inside them I've had one that would intermittently max out at 6500 or 7000.
Changed the orings and problem solved. Could not tell they were worn out though.
On the same machine (98 xpl ) found it would cavitate badly in the mid trim range.
Removed the ride plate only and not the ride shoe. Sealed around the ride shoe everywhere it meets the hull and inside the tunnel and underneath. Pretty much solved the cavitation.
