Ok, So I bought myself a 96 GTX lemon last year (engine blew on 3rd ride, plus have found a broken engine mount, and faulty reverse latch) and now its my winter project. I have the engine out and rebuilding it and decided I'm taking on all the body issues.

I want to redo the hull, stick with the same color but fix all the scratches in the gelcoat etc. Can someone tell me if i'm on track as I have never done anything this ambitious before with gelcoat. I think I'm going to just respray the gelcoat over the hull. Here is my process/thoughts.

1) I have DA'd the entire belly using 400 grit paper and used a scotch bright on the edges.

2) Fill all scrapes with bondo/3m "icing"

3) Sand smooth

4) clean entire area with acetone.

5) spray the tinted gelcoat (I think i'm going to use the spectracolour stuff as I can't find anyone in the Cleveland area that works with gelcoat all that much and thus can't find proper color.

Am I on the right track? does anyone have any better/easier idea's? I really don't want to have to REDO this next year, but am enjoying it now. Kinda a good winter project.

Thanks.
