Opinions of Hot Rods crankshafts vs OEM rebuilt?

Would be curious the opinions out there if a (new) Hot Rods crankshaft is worth the extra money over a (quality) rebuilt OEM crank? To answer the next question of how much more- let's say $100-$125 more than a rebuilt one (haven't got final price finalized). This is for a 580cc motor.

PS. Have twin carb, WSM head w/ 35cc domes, pipe/boost box and SS prop. I just bought new oversized pistons (1.5mm over) & rebuilt top end, then found issue w/ crank. Cost is starting to become and issue so what to be sure the extra cost of a Hot Rods crank is money well spent.
 
When you say a rebuilt OEM crank... are you talking about a FACTORY SeaDoo rebuild? If you are... a Hot Rods crank is WAY cheaper.

If you are talking about a local shop doing a rebuild on an OEM crank... that depends on the parts being used, and the quality of the work by that shop.

I personally like Hot Rods cranks.


Just as an FYI... I own a shop (see my sig) and I have the equipment to rebuild, press, and true a crank, but most of the time... I order a hot rods crank for my customers since I don't like to take the time to do it. Between the labor, and the cost of the parts... most of the time, it's cheaper for me to buy a crank. The only time I rebuild a crank is for something out of the ordinary, or for something with no support. (like a restoration on an old bike)

Yes, I meant a factory rebuilt crank. A guy I found rebuilds them w/ new bearings, seals, etc. Say's they're trued and ready to install. He requires a core charge (your old crank) or have to pay more. He has good feedback and provides a money back.

So my question is, which is the best way to go...a rebuilt factory crank or a Hot Rods crank (which will cost ~$100-125 more)?

Thats not a "Factory" rebuild.

But if he is local, and you trust his work, then buy it. If you are ordering it, and having it shipped... then I would think twice. also, ask him what parts he is using. there are a lot of shops right now that are using imported parts for the rebuild... and the quality isn't very good, and if they aren't rebuilding your crank... you could be getting a crank that was overheated, and should not have been rebuilt. With a Hot rods crank, you get a 100% new crank that are built to better specs than OEM.

Like I said... if he is local... take your crank to him, and tell him you want that one rebuilt with OE parts. (not import)
 
Thanks. Sounds like the new Hot Rods crank will offer better peace of mind (hence worth the extra $125) than a refurbished OEM crank.
