Ok guys I need your advice!!

The manual says yamaha oil only because of cat.

It's gonna take a some time to clog the cat but in that case something without metal in it is what the cat needs (NOT XPS2) TCW3 doesn't have much metal in it, but may as well run yami oil if possible.

The cat should eat up that oil if it's working, so there won't be much smoke if any.

So I just want to thank you guys once again, I went over to a yamaha forum at first but it sucked, not a lot of replies.
You guys rock
If you do roll out to the west coast you got a place to stay here!

Consider removing the cat. I believe it's prone to failure. Not a real expensive mod but if I recall it's expensive when it fails.

I just went back and read page 1 & 2 of this thread great news on this ski I missed the whole thing.

now I know I told you before the 1200 were tough as nailsbut just keep in mind there is no guarantee that a week from now you're not gonna see massive failure.

make sure if you have the power valve motor that you look into the wave eater clips.

Its a pv motor, now that I got it running I see it's got only 61 hours on it!!! I hope for no failure

I hope for no failure.

If you remove the spark plugs and roll it over by hand a few revolutions, does it make any odd sounds or have any stiff spots, does it feel smooth?

Any bits and pieces of engine coming from the exhaust (spitting out bearings or rings), clunking sounds, other suspicious indications?

If it feels weak and won't make good power (jet pump must be in water to test this) then need to find out why as opposed to keep running it.

Compression test now, since it's running, early way to detect something's afoul.

Good point, feels crisp and string though!!
I'll do a compression test today.
I ordered the flush hose and I'm going to pick up some yamalube today, I want to premix for a while at least just to be safe

You guys happen to know anything about the jet pump and changing the oil in it? I'm trying to find out on pwc today but nothing yet

Aren't those sealed bearings? I'm pretty sure they are, so if no water is inside hub you should be good to go. 61 hours is nothing in terms of those bearings, IMO

David, find and download the service manual, it's going to be helpful.

It says yamalube 2w only so I will stick with that

Good idea, stick with OEM recommendation. I wouldn't pour that on top of the existing oil that's in the oil tank, the reason is you don't know for sure what's in there. Run that oil tank to near empty (safe empty) remove the remainder and clean the lines and tank out before adding the 2W oil.

The reason is, sometimes oils are incompatible and might gel or clot once mixed together.

If you're pretty sure the oil tank has 2W in it then extract some and compare it to the real 2W. Mix the two together in a glass jar and let them set for as long as you can, to see if they separate. If they separate, they're incompatible, and that's not gonna work too well.

I'm glad you mentioned that! I was going to ask what you guys do with a new unknown situation

yes 2W i'm sorry.
no reason to believe current oil injection isn't functioning no true harm in adding light premix as well. I second the need to get it some run time, preferrably on the water, like NOW (don't go alone) at least on the trailer, the only chance for the engine is to burn out the last of that water. IMO its worth the risk to get it revved up vs the risk of crank failure damaging the cases.

If you had more invested in the ski , facing snowfall, and planned on mods & stuff i'd support the anal approach, and pull it apart now, but you are already so far ahead in the game i'd push for the goal line.

So I have not dropped her in the water, I know it would be nice but I'm really worried about the paper work, the guys a stand up guy but the sale was a lein to him and I'm just a 3rd party guy. I'm going to DMV ASAP but I would hate for the police to impound it, and have a hard time getting it back.
Well when I got home today I did a compression check and they are 108 across the board, which is right where they should be so that's good news!
I put some new plugs in and fired her up again and no problems there except she is smoking a lot!! I have sprayed about 3/4 of a can of fogging oil in so I'm thinking that is what that's about! Otherwise she runs nice and tight.
Anyway Im still very optimistic and my flush kit should arrive soon so I can run it longer on the hose.

i would have made the drive to a dealership to get a flush adapter myself or backed it into the water somewhere, every hour that it sits rust forms. Good Luck !

Oil = smoke = displaces moisture and provides lubrication = good but need to run engine to boil off and flush away internal moisture.

Cat converter below operating temp doesn't catalyze hydrocarbons thus does nothing till reaches operating temp. No big deal.

Flush adapter = 2 worm clamps and a piece of 1/2" PVC

Shit of course the dealer is closed today, I took a look and I can pull the hose off the adaptor and jerry rig something with some hose clamps when I return from work
