Hi, I recently bought my first PWC second hand. The previous owner removed the oil pump so now i have to premix the fuel. I went to the seadoo dealer to buy the correct oil for my PWC and I told the pump removal issue to the salesman and then he told me to use TCW3 oil instead the the apitc one. He told me that APITC oil was to thin for premix and there for i had to use TCW3 oil. Can any one assist me on this issue? Boating season just started here in my country and I don't want to risk my engine. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Stick with API-TC oil not TCW3. The Rotax motor needs a synthetic two stroke oil to API-TC specification.

I run Amsoil Interceptor API-TC oil in my 99 XPL and yes it is pre-mix 40:1. I have no issues with using this oil in pre-mix. The Amsoil is much cheaper than the Sea Doo branded oil.

Hope it goes well for you.

I am sure someone else will answer this, but for my XPL the owner before me actually removed the oil tank.

I think the other smaller engines (800 and below) still need oil for the rotary valve but I am not sure whether or not the oil comes from that tank. In any case the oil should also API-TC as different oils particulary synthetic vs mineral are not compatible and will cause you problems when mixed. That said is is Ok to change from mineral to synthetic but not the other way around.

Yes... Unless if you have a 947 engine with reed valves... you need to leave the tank i place, and use a good API-TC oil to keep your rotary valve gears lubed.

You still should not mix brands of oils.

what happens with that oil that enters the rotary valves? i'm new to seadoo's and the previous owner of my machine messed it up... He was using TCW-3 for the premix and told me to put HD-30 (Car oil) on the tank. I haven't got it to the water so i dont know anything about this... can anyone tellme the damage this mix could be making?

looks like im gonna be using the boat a lil longer that i was expeccting for this summer...

Changing your pre-mix fuel back to using synthetic API-TC is not too big a deal. Syphon out as much as possible of the old fuel and start from there.

However with your rotary valve I would recommend that you remove the tank and get rid of the HD30 oil, clean it up and then fill with the synthetic oil. You will need to clear the oil line as well.

Again I am not sure how the rotary valve works but I think it stores some oil near the valve, so you may need to work out how to get rid of that also.

Suggest you get yourself a copy of a shop manual and read up on this.

Good luck!

Mike

The oil in the rotary valve keeps the gears lubed, and cool. It enters in under the carbs, and exits out the exhaust side, and returns to the tank.

Normally the seals leak a little, so you will be introducing 30w motor oil into your engine, and when it mixes with your 2 stroke oil, bad things could happen.

Drain, and throughly clean the tank, hoses, and rotary gear section. Then refill the system with API-TC oil.

I'm sure the 30w would protect the gears... and it's cheap, but as I said... it's not good to mix oils. (in the 2-stroke world)
