New here, so thanks!
I think I may have a big problem........
I have a 1999 Sea Doo Challenger 1800 with the 110 HP Rotax engines. Are these the 787's?
I changed the fuel filters in the boat. The engines were tough to restart, but finally did start. One of the engines (the starboard one) was particularly stubborn, and required an excessive amount of cranking (though no more than 5-10 second cranking bursts).
Once that engine fired (in the driveway, on a hose), it seemed to run ok. Then I noticed an excessive amount of oil coming out of the exhaust. The oil pooled on the driveway. I put my hand in it and it was as if I had placed my hand in a bucket of used motor oil.
What happened? The engine was ok before this episode. If I flooded the engine (which I think I did before starting.....it finally started by cranking it with wide open throttle), would that also cause this excessive oil discharge from the exhaust? I did not run it long for fear of damage. Is that fear based on anything? Or should/can I run this thing to see if it clears up?
Or is it more serious, such as the crank seals going bad? Did I damage these by cranking over and over? (I've been looking at forums and crank seal may be a cause?)
And if the answer is that it is the crank, how hard is replacing the crank or should I replace engine with a rebuilt such as SBT?
Thanks for your replies. It's actually my wife's boat and she ain't happy!
