Oil leak

Hello to all and as always thanks for your help

I went to the lake this week end and used my 2005 gtx wake NA

After like 5 hrs using it the oil warning started so I turned it off and towed it back to the ramp and took it out of the water

When I opened to take a look inside I saw there was a lot of oil inside it, it was kind of milky as far as I know that it what happen when it gets mixed with water I guess having a little water inside is not that bad

So the first thing I did was take what was left of the oil inside the engine and the good news is it was OK no milky look and it was clean changed the oil 2 weeks ago

So the main thing where can this oil be coming from any ideas???

By the way it was never upside down

Just went through something similar on my 02 GTX 155 N/A and it was the PTO bearing/seal on the back of the motor that was leaking.

OP you will want to fill the engine oil back to the proper level then run the engine while looking at the back of the motor/prop shaft area. If you have a bad PTO bearing you will see oil spewing out from underneath the prop shaft.
 
I just installed a new bearing seal there, and found mine to be leaking upon installation. I have an 03 185 S/C machine. Very curious as to how to stop this...
 
Oh geez... idk what shaft I have, just that it's shiny and just like the old one. It has a little rubber hat on the end.
 
I am currently troubleshooting an oil leak on my 2005 GTX Wake. I found lots of oil that seemed to be sprayed on the port side wall of the engine compartment. I cannot seem to replicate the problem again. I lost about a quart of oil. I filled oil and took for a test ride periodically checking for leaks but nothing. I was reading in another forum that the TOPS valve can malfunction and cause leaks around the valve cover. I did some troubleshooting on the valve and realized that it is malfunctioning. I removed the valve and the valve activates when I connect safety lanyard but deactivates about 10 seconds later which would close the airway going to the valve cover. I used a volt meter to see if there was activation voltage present and there was. 12 volts was going to valve solenoid but solenoid was not activating. Going to change out TOPS valve and see if the oil spray happens again. Anyone else ever had a massive oil spray due to a faulty TOPS valve? Wondering if I should change the valve cover gasket but cant confirm that is where the oil came from.

My case might not apply, as I had significantly modified my 03 GTX to run in my Challenger. But I had an issue where I was dumping loads of oil out of the valve cover because I was overpressurizing my crank case. This was not the TOPS fault however, but rather the fact that my PCV piping was too small. If your PCV piping is kinked or clogged for whatever reason, you too will overpressurize. The Valve cover is the easiest place for PCV pressure to exit the motor, so you get a nice oily mess. I ditched the entire TOPS valve, but the real solution was getting wider PCV piping. Mine is still not as wide as stock, so if that's okay, it's probably not your problem. I would think the most likely place for oil to leak is the driveshaft bearing seal.
 
Thanks for the reply. Couple of questions. I cant physically see how an oil leak in that area could spray oil up towards the upper part of the engine compartment on the port side. Is oil in that area under pressure? It would seem that I would be able to recreate a leak in that area just by running the ski. I have cleaned the sump and taken it on a test ride and no oil. The problem seems to be sporadic. Also, see attached photo of the hose connecting the valve cover. It appears to beIMG_20160906_100540.jpg bulging. That was what lead me to diagnose the TOPS valve. Do you know if this looks normal? I did gut my TOPS valve but am going to replace it in case it has another function beside turnover protection.
 
That's just it building from the clamp. There should be no restriction in that pipe, it just goes to your intake. If that pipe gets blocked though, you'll definitely puke oil from your valve cover regardless if you have a tops valve or not. I have a video on YouTube on how much blow by these engines produce. It's staggering!
