i have and older 2000 GTX 951 and was considering goin to premix worring that the pump might fail leading to blown motor, but i was told the if the pump fails it fails in the full position(rich oil position). Can anyone tell me if this is true?? thanks

yup it usually fails and wot, its so rare that it fails. I was worried about it also for the longest time, but the cost of a new pump compared to oil and plugs when running premix . A new pump is the way to go, but i understand the piece of mind with running premix

well your oil pump just pumps straight oil the mixing happens after the fact, so your pump can fail when at idle or at full throttle. Alot of people say that the pump fails at full throttle, and the reason for that is because no oil or poor lubrication at full throttle is a pretty much bearing crank or piston melt down. It can still happen at idle but not as harsh of an enviroment.

yes i understand that but what i'm getting at is that i talked to a seadoo dealer today and he told me that if the pump failed it would not just stop pumping oil. he said it would continue giving oil to the engine but instead of the right amount of oil it would sent to much oil just fouling the plugs and what not. do you know if this is true??

I recently lost a 2002 GTX 951 PTO cylinder (melted piston) due to oil pump failure and can tell you it was not from too much oil. The post by "jords" concerning lack of oil at WOT due to pump failure was right on the money.
