Oil in my bilge water

Does anybody know why or where I would be having an oil leak by the super charger? The passenger side When I took my boat out of the water yesterday I drained the water from the bilge and noticed a small amount of oil mixed with my water. This has never happened before. TIA

There are 2 external o-rings on the supercharger that provide a crankcase oil seal, and seals on the internal charger shaft too. Possible they are leaking?

When was the last time the supercharger was removed/rebuilt? Were the seals replaced at that time? Should be easy to locate the leak by first cleaning the area very good and then keeping a close eye on the area. May need one of those telescoping mirrors to see in and around the underside of the supercharger.

How much oil are we talking about? Is there any oil loss evident by gauging the dip stick?

Thank you for the response. I cleaned around the leak with dawn dish soap. But b4, I felt all over tying to feel for clean oil and I did get some clean oil from under the supercharger also, there was a little bit of oil in the exaust hose of the supercharger. Not a whole lot but I could see it. I rubbed my finger on the inside of the exaust hose and there was some oil on my finger. I really don't know when the supercharger was rebuilt, I bought the boat used. There really was not a whole lot of oil but there was enough that I noticed immediately when I drained the water after testing my boat after installing a new wear ring and impeller. Also, I have never went full throttle until now. Maybe this was the cause for the oil rings to start leaking? your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Do you think that I should get my SC rebuilt? How hard is it to take apart? Is this something that I could rebuild myself?

Considering the age your your engine and the fact that you have no records of the supercharger ever being rebuilt, I would not run my engine at all until I had the supercharger rebuilt. The general rule of thumb (if rebuilt with the latest OEM parts) is 2 years or 200 hrs. Since you have a 2005, it is possible you have the older ceramic washers on your supercharger. They are a ticking time bomb. If they let go while the engine is running it will need to be pulled and rebuilt.

My advice is to pull it and have it rebuilt by someone who knows what they are doing and only with the latest Seadoo OEM parts. It is not really that difficult to do from videos I have seen, but it does require some skill and special tools. If done wrong it could destroy your engine. I would not attempt myself, unless I got some first hand experience.

They are not too difficult to take off, only held on by 3 bolts. Being a boat though, they are hard to get to. Search the internet for youtube videos about seadoo superchargers and you will find a wealth of information. Also search this site for "supercharger" and you will find tons of info.

This site offers a mail order rebuild service for a fair price. http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?70191-Sea-Doo-Supercharger-Rebuild-Service

Seems like you may be new to the world of seadoo, if so welcome. They are good reliable fun boats if maintained properly. There are some issues with some of the older supercharged engines that require specific maintenance protocols or blown engine. Supercharger is one item, and hollow exhaust valves happen to be the other potentially catastrophic issue. Not sure what your level of experience is with engines or wrenching, but do what you can to familiarize yourself with this boat and engine. This site has tons of info, just search the threads. You can also download a copy of the service manual for your boat/engine. Didn't mean to shock you with all of this, just trying to save you from a blown engine.

If you have specific questions, post back and we'll do what we can to help!

Thank you guys for all this MUCH needed info. I did some research and I plan on getting my SC professionally rebuilt using the services found on here. I will start taking my SC off tomorrow and sending it off ASAP. Thank you guys.

Well... it seem you were right. I've taken the supercharger off this morning and I found 2 original factory clamps. One was attached directly to the exaust on the SC hose. This tells me that this SC HAS never been rebuilt EVER. I guess I am lucky. 15 years and same SC. WOW. Also, the oil leak was coming from underneath the SC. Thanks again.

Yeah, go with the rebuild service.

Another question. Does anyone know why my boat Porpoise. I go about 38mph and it begins to pick up and go down. I ease off the throttle just a bit and it stops. But I would like to really know how fast my boat can go. Help! Lol

Sounds like it could be grey tempo lines (all gunked up), also could be the same with your fuel selector. Try running it with it on reserve does it stop? or continue?

I have no idea. But I will check all that you mentioned. I won't be able to do anything until I get the supercharger back. I didn't know if it was something I could work on while I wait on the S/C

There should be no grey tempo fuel lines in your boat, it was something the older 2-stroke ski's suffered from.

The porpoising is likely due to the hull shape/size. I have seen a few threads from owners of boats like yours who have complained. Try searching the threads. Some have suggested trim tabs to help alleviate the problem. May want to start a new thread about the porpoising, it will get more response.

Glad you got your SC off and out for rebuild. As long as all the parts were all still attached and it didn't come apart in your engine you should be good to go for the next 2 years.

Thank you devonte. The SC came off pretty good. All intact. But I did notice the oil, just like you mentioned. I just can't believe it held up for 15 years. Should I see an increase in power? Also, I could only carry 4 people before I installed the new propeller and wear ring. Now that I will have the SC rebuilt, could it be possible that I will be able to carry the recommended 8 people or 1440lbs? Just a question b4 I get it all back put together. I have a whole bunch of pics of all the work I am doing but for some reason I can't upload any. Either on my laptop or tablet or phone. Sucks!!!
