OIL
Which is the best oil to use a good quality 10W - 40 blend or full synthetic oil.
There seems to be a lot of debate about, if you can use a full synthetic oil or not
Amsoil put out a paper saying that it had tested it 10W - 40 full synthetic oil on seadoo jet ski and claim their oil is better for the S/C than the oil seadoo recommend but it is very pricy in Australia
Do I need to use marine oil or would a high performance car oil be ok

Reactions: JKU
5w40 or 10w40 synthetic oil
The 40 covers the highest temperature you will be operating in
5 is viscosity and 5 remains on the parts longer that need lubricating between start ups

SUPERCHARGER ENGINES: as of 2011

If XPS engine oil is not available, use a 10w40 mineral engine oil compatible with wet clutches.

NOTICE:

NEVER use synthetic oil. This would impair the proper operation of the supercharger clutch. Do not add any additives to the recommended oil. Mineral oils not approved by BRP may also contain additives that may cause slippage of the supercharger and lead to premature wear.
Use of any oil not recommended by BRP may void BRP’s limited warranty.

Engine with Supercharger: as of 2019

If XPS engine oil is not available:

Use a 5w40 4-stroke SAE motorcycle engine oil compatible with wet clutches meeting or exceeding the both following industry specs:

JASO-MA2
API SJ, SL, SM, SN

API has since dropped those classifications so the JASO-MA2 takes precedence.

So BRP has loosened its restrictions since 2011 and is allowing any motorcycle oil type that is approved for wet clutches.

That is good but probably doesn’t help the cost much because motorcycle oil with the JASO-MA2 rating tends to be expensive.

Has anyone out there with a SC'd 4 stroke, have an engine failure due to their type of oil ( non synthetic versus synthetic)? What are the pros using?

Another question would be if anybody out there has had a premature supercharger washer failure due to using a non BRP recommended oil?

Any type of oil is now approved, synthetic or non synthetic, just has to be motorcycle oil and JASO-MA2 rated.

There are so many factors that can cause supercharger failure that I don't think you'll ever distinguish the effect of synthetic vs dino oil. Given Sea-Doo's general longstanding recommendations, I probably wouldn't use synthetic oil (motorcycle or other).
