Oil Filter Deformation/ Mutation, Noticed upon removal

Looks like a manufacturing defect. Did you eyeball it during install or could it have always been that way? Otherwise I'd guess maybe over-pressure in the system.

Likely over-pressure in the system... The craft had a full 4 quarts of oil/ was maxed out to the oil fill line on the dipstick. Thanks for the help.
 
I suspect the oil SAE weight might have been too high, or the motor oil wasn't fully warm during blast-off? I've also seen sinilar (not seadoo specifically) when the filter bypass valve was welded shut on purpose.

Generally speaking, the danger of having an overfilled crankcase excludes excessive oil pressure, the oil can become frothed by the rotating assembly then oil pressure suffers as air is cavitating the oil pump and oil can be slung up onto the cylinder walls interfering with ring seal/piston clearance.

Nope, 100% 5w-40 XPS/ SeaDoo specific blend in the craft. Oil changed regularly, likely a manufacturing defect... we’ll see if any problems arise.
