okay so i have just taken over my mothers two 2004 sea doo Gtx's. (one wake edition and ones is the limited/supercharged)...

needless to say my mother used them one season and they have been sittin in storage for the past 3.5yrs. the batteries are both drained/dead and im replacing them tomorrow. i am going to drain all the old gasoline and fill with sum 93 octane to make sure the levels stay good...

i am attempting to change the oil and filter myself altho i cannot find any info on what kind of oil filter or where the oil filter is located... can anyone tell me what kind of filter to use? i believe i located where the oil filter is located; towards the top rear of engine with a star ended bolt to remove it.( am i correct? is this where the filter goes?)

any help in this area would be much appreciated! thanks for all ur help/links...

4 tecs take the same oil filter . it will be at the rear of the ski right below the white coolant bottle . Its round with a star nut. There should be posts on this. But it goes back to the s/c ski. If you have the ceramic washers in the s/c you have to use non-synthetic oil.The ski should be warm before changing oil. Also there is a hole procedure to follow . You can get the manual down loads from this sight.

wow.... not paying to download a how to manual..... i thought the reason for forum sites was to get around all that and actually find help for what your looking for

There is only so much that a forum can help you with and believe me if you get a manual you wont have as many questions. We will try to help you as much as we can on here but we all have to go look at our manuals most of the time if we havent do something already so just download it and itll help you for as long as you own the ski.

If the Supercharged SeaDoo has not already had it's SC clutch washers updated to steel, then it needs these changed ASAP! The original Ceramic washers fail, break apart and fall down into the engine wreaking havoc and necessitating complete engine removal and disassembly.

How many hours are on each machine? The Supercharger has a 100 hr maintenance interval, at which point it needs to be completely rebuilt (much more extensive than just changing out those ceramic washers!). Speed costs, how fast can you afford to go? LOL!

You can buy the SeaDoo filters and oil from either your closest SeaDoo dealership, or from any of the numerous online SeaDoo parts sellers, or Ebay even. To remove the oil from the engines you'll need a suction oil changer.... also available from numerous online PWC parts seller, Ebay, and even your local Academy stores carry them. Walmart sells a hand suction pump you can use but they are alot of work, I really recommend the 12V suction pumps. With the engine warm (but not HOT... give it 20 minutes or so to cool down some before trying to suck the oil out), you put a tube down the dipstick hole till it touches the bottom of the inside of the engine and then suck the oil out and into a container. You'll get about 3 quarts the 1st time. Now remove the tube from the engine, hold the throttle all the way down (as in WOT!) and crank the engine for 15 seconds... the engine will not start this way (you might want to verify this before you start removing the engine oil, but my RXT will not start with throttle fully depressed), and it will move more oil from the PTO assembly into the bottom of the engine. Now suck another quart or so out... may need to repeat the cranking process 2 or 3 times (always remove the suction tube before cranking, and hold that throttle all the way down to prevent starting!). The 4-TEC engine holds about 4.7 quarts of oil total, and you should be able to get 4 1/2 quarts out roughly. Refill to the middle of the bend in the dip-stick (NOT to the top of the bend, just to the middle is full). Start engine and run it for 30 seconds to circulate the oil, then stop and check oil level again and add a little more as needed to get to middle of dip-stick.

Regards and good luck!

thanks a million michael...

I have obtained 2 2004 sea doo gtx (one wake edition the other limited SC) ill give ya the background and reason as to why i couldnt tell u how many hours are on them. My mother purchased them in either late 06 or early 07. not sure if they were new or used when she bought them. i imagine they were used as whats the chances of gettin a 04 new in 07. she used them for one season and they have been sitting in a storage place for 3 years. ontop of that batteries were never disco'd and everything else was neglected. i actually find a local certified mechanic who i dropped them off to who wasnt treating me like the marines were. i am having him do an over all inspection, oil changes, coolant flush, plugs changed. the batteries alone cost me 232.. after this oil change i will be doing it myself as he pretty much showed me how to do it, and via michaels assitance...

anyways, once again, thanks for the help michael and everyone.. and hopefully this weekend ill be riding and gettin wet...

I could be mistaken, but don't those models also have an hour meter in the instrument cluster? Or have you not had the electronics powered up yet? The LCD display in the instrument cluster should show how many hours are on each Doo.

Regards and good luck!

RsungodA, did you get my mail?

Here are the steps to a good oil change.
Parts and tools needed: OIL/FILTER/Suction pump/rags/funnel/E-10 torx socket.

1. Go to dealer and get a new filter. (he will lighten your wallet for you).
2. Get 4 quarts (or litres) of either Sea-Doo's 4 stroke Conventional oil or any conventional 10W40 from a auto store for 10 billion X less.
3. Warm up the ski, either in the water or on the hose. (not more than 5 minutes on the hose, just enough to warm it up)
3A. note about on the hose:connect the garden hose, start the ski, then turn on the water and warm up the ski. Turn off the hose then the ski. *never run without the hose for more than 30 seconds as the exhaust manifold has no cooling and could be warped)
4. Rev to 4000 rpm and press stop with it at 4000 to get the oil to the pan.
4a. Let ski sit for 5 min to let oil drain back.
5. Remove Dipstick and set it aside. Remove oil fill cap
6. Insert Oil suction pump tube into the oil dipstick tube no more than 18.7 inches (mark it with a perm marker or tape)
7. pump out as much oil as you can (about 3 quarts will come out)
8. REMOVE the suction pump tube.
9. Hold the trottle at WOT and crank the engine for 10 seconds. (this turns off the start function and pumps more oil back to the resevoir for pick up)
10. Reinstall the suction pump hose and suck out more oil.
11. repeat steps 8 to 10, 3 times then remove suction pump.
12. Place wrag around oil filter housing to catch any spill (very little)
13. remove torx bolt from top of oil filter can (plastic on early skis, metal on newer ones)
14. gently pry the cap off the oil filter can, use a non metal tool so you don't scratch the lid or can.
15. lift oil filter out of can, be sure what comes out looks like what your putting back in (incase the bottom of the filter stuck in the can, rare)
16. install the new filter in the can as the old one was.
17. check the O-ring on the cap and if its not damaged from the cap removal, reinstall the cap,be sure not to catch an o-ring. Tighten the bolt to only 80 inch/lbs.
18. if your oil was at the corect level before pumping it out, poor it into a semi tranpartent 4 quart/litre jug and see how much you pumped out. (some pumps show you how much so you can skip this step)
19. put funnel into oil fill and add oil to the amount you pumped out.
20. reinstall dipstick and oil fill cap.
21. start engine and hose and check for leaks. (run for 2 minutes at idle)
22. wait 30 seconds and check your oil level.
23. if too much, remove dipstick and suck out a little and repeat steps 21 and 22.
24. check all hoses, clamps, connectors at this time.
25. Your done!
*** never crank the engine with the siphon pump tube in the dip stick!!**
Ski must be level to change the oil, if on a trailer, put a level on the bump strip on the side of the ski, and tilt the trailer untill its level.
