I know everyone is going to say dont do it but IM doing it, I have a couple sleds and they have new cans on them and sound amazing and I have heard a few skis my way that dont have a waterbox and they sound amazing! SO my question is what should I do?

Aftermarket = Big bucks
No waterbox = to much power loss

so im thinking of modifying the stock boxes somehow, just wondering if anyone has done this before? If I end up removing them what do I do with the water Line?

I'll be doing this with a 95 spx and a 96 Waveblaster 2.

the white water box from the 97 spx is supposed to be an improvement, but i'm not sure if yours is the 800 or not.

no the 95 is a 657, I want these machine to be loud, we have 2000hp speed boat ripping aroudn the area so noise isnt that big of an issue and where there are people anchored you cant touch the throttle anyway so it would only be loud where it doesnt make much of a difference...i cant find after market boxes anywhere for these thing ive been searching for 2 days lol the only one I did find for the wb2 was $210 plus shipping and im in canada so expect another $50 duty...

Well...... It's because of....

I know everyone is going to say dont do it but IM doing it.......

AND.............

I have heard a few skis my way that dont have a waterbox and they sound amazing!

No they don't!!! they just sound loud, and annoying. And... loud skis don't make more power, as you said below.

No waterbox = to much power loss

And loud skis get lakes closed. There are a lot of lakes in the world that are starting to ban 2-stokes. SO... there is no reason to make you ski louder.

A waterbox by itself will NEVER make a noticeable difference in the performance. (by it self) It will only support other mods. So... making more noise, for no reason, is just GAY. (I think that was a southpark episode, with Harley riders)

Not trying to be harsh... just saying the truth.

Im sure there are people that have done it and could explain it, I dont want to run without a box because I know it will loose power, thats why I want to modify the stock boxes..I live near lake erie and it will never be shut down lol my little bit of noise is nothing compared to whats out there...Im just so used to having everythig loud and my seadoos are the only things that arent lol

Well... if you want to mod your box... have at it... and please post pictures on the build. BUT... this is not a "performance" web site... so you will get very few people giving input.

Back in the mid 80's... I mod'ed a bunch of water boxes because we were doing rear exhausts on the old JS skis. BUT... this went along with a bunch of other mod's. We pushed the JS440 from 25 hp, up to 60 hp... so since we were more than doubling the factory HP... we needed the exhaust to breathe.

Good luck

it just sucks cuz everything Ive ever had has had some sort of exhaust, trucks cars dirt bikes, snowmobile...its just too quiet for me lol I had heard some on youtube that are too loud but im sure they dont have a box at all...im just looking for a little more exhaust sound. I dont see how it doesnt effect all the other toys but it will with this one

technically it does effect your sled. the two stroke needs a certain amount of back pressure to make max power. by adding an aftermarket can (depending on which brand) you will be reducing the amount of back pressure and actually hurting performance.

well the sled still hits the same rpm and same top speed so I dont see that it hurt it lol?? Idk I just like how it sounds n want it but I guess I cant have it

that's why i said "depending on which you had". most result in no net gain, but on the dyno show maybe 1 or 2 hp loss. what sled it is on will also make a difference.

anyways thats not the point. if you want something louder, without causing an issues, your best bet would be to buy a water box from TDR or other manufacturer.
