I own a 97 GTI with the 717 engine. I loaned it to some friends that were taking my daughter to the lake who is friends with their daughter. Problems ensued almost immediately. When backing them down the ramp they jach-knifed my trailer and bent up my toolbox. Then, they were put in the water they were put in the lake without the drain plugs in place. UGH!!! The water was drained out of hull and the ski was ran a couple of days after that incident and everything seemed fine. Then while my daughter and her friend were riding, they ran the ski completely out of gas on the lake. After being towed in and then refueled, the ski would not start up again. So the plugs were then pulled and replaced. Both sets of plugs were wet with fuel but there seems to be gas but no spark. DESS beeps twice as usual when the lan is plugged in. I checked for water or evidence of it in rear electrical box and everything seemed fine. I also checked for loose grounds. No fuses blown either front or rear. Pulled the mag cover and it looked like it may have gotten wet at some point. There was a brown rust substance in the bottom of the case. So I pulled the flywheel to inspect the magneto. Everything looks fine except for the top portion of magneto. Do not know the function of this particular piece of the mag, but it appears to be discolored; maybe even burnt looking. Im not sure if this discoloration is anything I should concern myself with. I just know I don't have any spark. I do suspect that water may have shorted out my magneto. My next step is pulling the magneto itself. Any ideas?
