No power in water

So I have a 90 seadoo with the 587 motor. Long story short, I have no power in the water. Rpms just never get high enough even with WOT to move faster than 5 mph. Out of water, the rpms struggle a little but come up to max relatively quickly. I have changed plugs on water today with no luck. I did just do a top end rebuild and everything is in the correct place. Haven't check compression yet cause it's late but I doubt that's my issue. I don't know of anything else that would cause a no power issue.

Also I did over heat a few weeks ago prior to rebuild. Bugs got stuck in the exit tube.

Another note, the ski looks like it wants to move but can't? The wake gets slightly bigger under WOT but I don't go any faster

Alrighty, compression is a little low for new pistons but the numbers are the same for my other seadoo that's running fine. Both cylinders are identical at the 115/120 mark.

The carb was rebuild and reset at the start of the season.

Compression looks really low.,,skis can be champs on the trailer and chumps in the water.

Agreed, I'm probably looking at a new rotory and an actual boring of the cylinders. Not the point right now though.

One ski is running just fine with the low compression and one can't get up to speed at all. It sounds like I should be moving but it's just a bunch of white smoke and no wake...

I did use gear oil to lube the cylinder walls during assembly, could that be causing my problem?

It should not be "white" smoke,,,bit blue,,,white smoke can indicate water in a cylinder,,,(steam).

Water in cylinder would explain the power loss while in the water, hmmm.

Could water get in via the exhaust side of the system? Like where the manifold bolts up to the nice curly piece?
