Hi all, I am pretty much new to boating in general and totally new to the whole seadoo thing. I really fell in love with the look. I am currently looking at buying a 2002 Utopia 185 with the merc jet drive?? After a little reading, I figured this would be my best bet to get some precise advice. Is there anything in particular I should look for? The gentleman selling it seems very decent and honest and I got a good overall feel from him but it still is a lot of $$. $13500CAD to be exact. Is this a good deal? Thanks to all in advance.

Dewman,

Aaron is the authority on the U-185 and will certainly chime in. What I would like to go over with you since your both new to boating and to Seadoos is the Seadoo jet drive system.

Be aware that while the U-185, like most Seadoos, require as little as 12" to float, they will suck up anything on the bottom if you run in waters that shallow. The ramifications of this are damaged components in the jet pump and significantly poor performance following this damage. So long as your aware and sensative to this limitation of jetboats be prepared for an experience stern drive boats cannot match.

At full trottle...

The Seadoo mechanic at the local dealer told me that the Seadoos can suck up a rock the size of the big softball from 3 feet down at full throttle. I don't think it will do that will idling.

Should be a done deal, just pending a water test. Just added a pic, it's in great shape for an '02. I thought more people would have opinions on this. Feel free to let me know your thoughts. I will not be insulted and I promise I won't cry.

Can't wait!
