New to the forum looking for some info

Hello,
I'm new to the forum because I ran into some issues with my boat. I own a 2011 speedster 150 255hp.. recently sucked up a bunch of sand and now I have no thrust beyond putting across the lake at low rpm. My assumption is a damaged wear ring and possibly impeller. I typically fix everything myself from hot rod diesels to drag motorcycles so I'm sure the task couldn't be too demanding. The forum is packed with a lot of information. A lot to search thru in what short amount of time I have to look. My questions are is there a list of necessary parts and is there some preferred aftermarket impellers and wear rings that would be worth the extra cash? The boat has a stock ceiling that I would like to shatter. I've found that most people feel the stock components are the best?

Welcome to the forum. I have the same boat same year.

First off, what happens when you hit the throttles? You you get a bunch of cavitation?

If so, yes you need to pull the pump and inspect the wear ring and impeller.

It is not hard and there are plenty of YouTube videos to show you how. You will need some tools but for the most part it sounds like you will be equipped to do the job.

As for the aftermarket parts, I have not seen anything conclusive for our boats. So maybe you can figure it out. Many use the Solas impellers as we have the standard 159mm pump.

Post some pics of your pump and wear ring/impeller. If you're seeing a good amount of light around the impeller, then it may be time for a new wear ring. Easy job.

If it's a wear ring, I'm a fan of the freezer method. No need to remove the impeller.

Sorry off topic. I'm looking at buying one of these boats but the one I'll looking at doesn't have decals. How do I know if it is a 215hp or 255hp. Under the rear engine lid where the boats information is, it says 174kw and on the side it says maximum vessel power is 190kw. I know that 174kw is only 233.3hp and 190kw is 254.6 hp. Is it normal for the 255hp boats to say 174kw in the rear compartment???

Open the engine compartment and look for an intercooler. This indicates a supercharger and therefore a 255HP.

Mine says the same. In 2011 there were only 2 engines. 155 HP Normally Aspirated and the Super Charged 255 HP. Yours is the 255 HP like mine.

I have never looked at that though, so I don't understand why it would say that.

Ok. I thought that they still made the 215hp

I have the 2012 tow tower on it. Do you know if there are surf racks that mount to the upper side plates, instead of 2.5" universal round ones. Screenshot_20200903_003711.jpg

I know it's supercharged. But both the 215 and the 255 are supercharged. I just didn't know how to tell the difference between the two.

215 has an internal intercooler that's located in the intake plenum. You can tell by seeing coolant lines going into and out of the front side of the plenum.

255 has an external intercooler. You'll easily be able to see it if you follow the hose coming off the supercharger.

Internal (215) looks like this:

I can reliably hit 60 MPH alone but have done as high as 64 MPH with reaching 62 MPH half of the time depending on the conditions. This is with GPS on my phone because at 62 MPH my boat based wheel speedo say I am doing 48 MPH.

My speedo says 54mph. If you think using a gps would result in a higher speed, I need to try it. I just paid 1000 to have the super charger rebuilt and a new wear ring put in.

I max out at 8080 RPM basically at 62MPH reliably...alone. I am 172 LBS.

Yes, the speedo is junk, at least in mine.

So mine should be doing about the same. I can't imagine that 120rpm really makes a difference. And I'm about the same weight.

Just add a simple GPS app to your phone and see.

BTW, I maxed out at 7800 is rpm when I bought the boat in the spring. Had the odd bog and surging from time to time that got worse. Turns out my IC was leaking.

Swapped it out with the new larger unit with the vent an voila...almost 8100 RPMs.

At 7800 rpm I was maxing out at 56/57. Now 62.

Not saying your IC is leaking, just showing the rpm vs speed relationship.

I just replaced the wear ring on my 2007 last night. I got a rock lodged in the impeller. I am not sure how similar the aft assemblies are. Mine was pretty straight forward. Make sure you have metric allen head sockets. To get to the bolts that hold the pump to the hull, I chose to remove the bracket assembly that holds the reverse mechanism on. It is a tight space for a regular allen wrench and 1/4 turn at a time sucked, the sockets will help with that. If you have the right tools and long enough extensions to reach the four bolts holding the pump to the hull you may not have to though. There is an impellar removal tool you will need if you decide to take it off to remove the ring. I did not. I stuck the entire pump in the freezer for 35-40 minutes then tapped the ring out using a flat head screwdriver from the other side. Froze the new ring for over an hour and then pushed it in.

I know a guy who put a stainless wear ring on his. He is on a deep lake that he does not have to worry alot about shallow water. I still would not be a fan of it, seems like it could cause more harm then good.

Nice. It's good to know.

Cool, interested to see what you get.

BTW, I don't have a tower so I would assume you will loose a couple MPH from that.
