I ran across this forum a couple weeks ago and it seems to be a great place. I posted up to say "hello" in the meet and greet section but thought it would be better to post my issues in the proper forum.

I recently picked up a 2000 GTI and a 2001 GTX. Got a great deal on the boats (at least I thought!!) as they hadn’t been run much over the past few years. I did some basic service on the skis and installed new batteries before heading out for the first test run. I've been riding motocross for the past 12 years and know how to properly service and maintain my 450's but I'm a little lost with these Sea Doos.

Lets start with the GTI. Got it off the trailer and it fired up without hesitation. When installing the laynard, it would not give the 2 beeps, but it still fired up. I did get a little white smoke for 30 seconds or so, but it cleared out great and ran perfect...for about 30 minutes. At that time, it went dead just like someone pulled the lanyard off. Tried to hit the start button and nothing at all. I checked the battery cables and they had some lose. Thought that may be the culprit...but no luck. Checked the fuses and had a 5 amp fuse blown. Replaced the fuse and nothing. I ran the advanced diagnostic test and got no beeps at all, but since I never heard beeps from the beginning didnt know what to make of this. Trying to fgure out if the MPEM is gone or if there are other possibilities such as the lanyard, DESS, relays, etc.

On to the GTX. On day 1 (the day the GTI decided not to run!) the GTX ran great. I did take it a couple minutes to clear out but it ran perfect for about 3 hours and all seemed fine. Lets go to day 2....not so great! All was well for the first couple hours, then my brother-in-law said the ski was acting like a clutch was slipping. I get on and sure enough, it was cavitating pretty bad. At that point, the ski died and it acted like it had taken in water. Sure enough, the ski was completely full of water so I started bailing. Got the water out and found a nice size leak at the driveshaft seal. After several hours, I finally got the ski back on the trailer and headed home. The engine did take on water and I have followed the procedure in the shop manual to clean it out. Any other recommendations and/or precautions I should take regarding drying out the engine and replacing the carbon ring on the driveshaft?

What a first weekend on the lake!!!

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Hey there welcome from a newer member as well... I may only be partial or no help at all but the seasoned ones are good at correcting. For the GTI I woud say it is probably just a bad beeper as to why its not making any noise nd that should be a cheap fix. As for it shutting down and not starting up again you may want to check that the gauges move like they should when you put the key on the post to make sure you are getting recognized. If not then maybe check to make sure the post for the key is not loose and is clean. I don't know a whole lot about your model specifically but i had an issue that wouldnt start and it wa just a loose post for the key. Not sure if or why this would have made you blow a fuse but did you check them prior to the ride? I would also defintely check the fuel lines to make sure there is flow. Just my 2 cents but you may want to be more defined on how it acted when it shut down as in did it bog down before or just abruptly stop or lurch or anything.

I checked the post and it tested fine. Didnt check the fuse before I had any issue but I'm pretty certain that 5amp fuse is the brain of the machine. The GTI just stopped as if you turned the key off.

I think I need to separate these issues into 2 posts.

Thanks

UPDATE ON GTI. After reviewing the electrical diagram, found the 15amp fuse blown in the electrical box. Installed new fuse and it fired up.....only to blow the 15amp fuse on the MPEM a few seconds later. After some testing, looks like we traced it back to a Magneto/Stator problem. We unpluged the yellow harness over the flywheel cover and the fuses did not blow....plug in back in and 1 of the fuses will blow. Am I on to a common issue?

Bolts holding the flywheel housing have been off the ski before, so it looks like there may be a previous issue that was dealt with. Is the stator and magneto common problems on the 2000 GTI?
