Im looking at buying a 94 speedster twin engine..I know the guy that has it and ran great last time he had it out 5 years ago..its been in a heated garge since when he bought his 2005 speedster..what should i look for on it since in been sittin for so long? and also whats some good upgrades to do to these? he is asking $3,000 for it and it is in great shape..anything I should do to it before taking it out and runing it?

thanks

For starters you need to empty the old gas and put in new gas. Swap in new plugs. Probably gonna need a new battery Then try to start it. You may get it to start. If that works, take it out for a spin. I would also do a compression test. That is the best case scenario. Other scenario is it needs carbs cleaned and new fuel lines. Worst scenario is engines could be toast if it had water in them. I would offer like 1500 bucks prior to it running. If it runs, I would still work it down to like $2500. Good Luck and come back with any questions.

theres no water in the motors or anything...Im pretty good around jet skis I had kawi X2's before..he always had it winterized by a shop and its been in a heated garage for the past 5 years its been in storage...are the 657x motors pretty good? what mph should the boat run also..thanks for the help

There is a fella named KustomKarl, That has a bunch of threads about bringing a motor out of storage.
I brought mine out of storage to find Oil in the bottom of the crankcase. Leaking seals.
I pumped the oil out and they ran fine.
Good Luck and Let Us know how all turns out.

How old would you be okay using old gas for? 6months? a year?

What about oil?

That depends. Did the previous owner add marine stabil? If so, i wouldnt worry too much unless its been over a year. Mine sits 8 months from sept till may and i never have a problem in the spring when i fire it up. As far as oil, it really doesnt hurt it to sit long periods. Just make sure to use the correct oil. Use wat the previous owner used unless it was the wrong oil.

Can you test the oil to determine what it is? Do garages have a device to measure that?

It took me 3 months to track down the owner to buy this boat (at a steal of a price nonetheless), so I'm doubting I"ll be able to track him down again to ask about oil.

No way to really test. The color sometimes helps tell you. I would either use the boat till its very low or drain it out and add new.
